Excursions as described
On our outward journey, we visit Trentham Gardens. The gardens have been transformed over the last 15 years and are now some of the finest in Britain, the fantastic revival of the gardens led the Telegraph newspaper to describe Trentham Gardens as ‘The garden makeover of the decade’ and collect an abundance of awards.
We spend an entire day at RHS Bridgewater. The 154-acre garden is the biggest hands-on horticultural project undertaken in Europe. This once in a generation opening sees the Royal Horticultural Society take inspiration from the heritage of the site and transform it into a world-class garden. RHS Bridgewater was once home to Worsley New Hall, a Victorian Mansion surrounded by formal gardens and woodlands. The hall became a Red Cross Hospital during the First World war, and then sadly fell into decline. The RHS took over in 2017 and spent £44m to transform and create a world-class garden.
Chester
We have a day at leisure to enjoy all that Chester has to offer. Chester has a wide range of activities available to visitors, from simply walking round the compact city centre and shopping, to visiting the very visible Roman ruins which are dotted through the town. Particularly impressive is the Roman Amphitheatre next to Grosvenor Park.
The Queen at Chester is centrally located, just a short walk from the centre of Chester and is one of the oldest hotels in the UK, having originally been built to serve the train station in 1860. The hotel’s elegant style includes quirky touches which provide an interesting twist to its traditional origins. All 218 stylish bedrooms are comfortably furnished, the restaurant is cosy, and the bar and lounge areas are traditional in style with sofas and chairs. There is also a fabulous courtyard terrace with water features.
